Independence and privacy are important conditions for most of us. As people age and physical changes occur, we may find ourselves or our loved ones asking the question, “When should I look for help?” There are some common indicators that help us tell when it’s time to seek help. The important thing is that we don’t need to wait for a crisis situation to develop. Often, simple solutions such as additional in-home assistance or companionship can make a big improvement. Alternative Senior Care can assist you in discussing how to maintain your independence and privacy.
If you begin to notice that your loved one is exhibiting some of the following behaviors it may be time for you to step in.
- Not eating well
- Not bathing
- Not taking their medication or not taking them properly
- Showing symptoms of depression
- Not keeping the house as clean as they usually would
- The inability to get out and be involved in the community by themselves
Below is a link to a short quiz which may help you in deciding whether or not now is the right time to step up a personal caregiver for your aging friend or family member.
Free Assessment Meetings
Alternative Senior Care offers free assessment meetings or interviews. In these meetings we ask questions to learn what aspects of daily living provide problems for your loved one. Perhaps they need help with meals, a companion in which they can build a friendship with or maybe a staff member is needed in-home more often to assist with cleaning, bathing and other tasks.
We start the interview process by conducting an in-depth assessment of you and your loved one's lifestyles, medical conditions and any questions or concerns you may have about in-home caregivers. The assessment process allows you and your family to openly discuss the situations you have been going through. It also allows the person in need to discuss their fears about losing their independence, cost issues and the importance of them being able to stay in their own home.
During the meeting, we fully explain the services available, issues covered include:
- Matching the appropriate caregiver
- Daily routines
- Health and medication issues
- Emergency response
- Nutritional issues
- Home cleaning issues
- Transportation needs
- Costs of services
